Sam Gorelick

Born: c. 1894 Died: March 1960

Emigrated from Minsk, Russia to Omaha, NE, just prior to World War I. Enlisted in U.S. Army and served in the medical corps; his vocation in Russia was that of a butcher. Honorably discharged from Camp Dodge, Iowa in December 1918. Became a fruit peddler in South Omaha, then opened grocery stores with his brother Phil — first "E Street Market" at 24th and E, then "Phil's Market" at 24th and M Streets. In 1939-40, expanded into a chain under the SuperValue and Little Giant banner with son-in-law Lou Singer. Franchise sold in 1959. Died at age 66 following stomach surgery; probably had cancer. Buried at Golden Hill Cemetery, 42nd and Grand, Omaha.
